In a Project from CSUN’s Advance Web Design class, I was tasked to
design make car UI for a car that doesn’t have one or update a car’s UI for cars you think could be better. We were also supposed to pair this with a phone app in which you can control the car’s UI with the app. For my project I decided to upgrade the ford 2024 expedition, creating a fun bubbly design that stands out from others while still being easy to read and navigate while driving. This project was created in figma and was my introduction to the program

The Company Overview

The Ford company has existed for many years Originally founded back in 1901, from the start that have been a leading name in American car manufacturing. In the current day, Ford’s claimed purpose is to help people build a better world by connecting people by freeing them to pursue their dreams. They provide all different kinds of automobiles from Cars, SUVs, Trucks, buses, and even tractors. Despite Ford being a classic American company it has had a rough time during the 21st century. When the economy started to tank it meant Americans didn’t have extra money to spend on things like new cars. Well still trying to get a better footing in the modern space, Ford makes the most from their program that helps give people auto loans. Ford has also made pledges to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable to the earth: this has led to them developing electric cars along with many other companies and the market shifts.

Age: 26

Mother of one rents a single story house with her husband. lives in the valley of California.

Wants & Needs

Sarah is someone who is starting/started a family, with one kid they plan in about year to have another, so they want an SUV with a clean design and high safety. She wants also a new car with all the modern amenities, to make sure her car connects easily with the car: her busy job makes it so that she always gets texts and emails.

Frustrations

Sarah has little problems with cars but one thing she misses about cars are the nobs and buttons that control the dash. In a previous car, she had it where the screen stopped working, and couldn’t use the dash until she got it fixed

James C.

Age: 34

Single Father of two and lives
in the central valley of California.
lives in a two room, one bathroom apartment.

School Teacher

Wants & Needs

James wants a car that is able to hold a lot and has great gas mileage. He also cares about how safe the car is due to him transporting his kids back and forth from school days to soccer
games all the time. The car must be built to last, when he makes a big purchase like this he hopes he can get 5-6 years out of it.

Frustrations

James does not like most
car UIs as he feels like he has
taken his eyes off the road for way too long. He feels like there should be more visual symbols so he doesn’t keep fiddling with the screen.
